A Good Site

Jean and I camped at several spots this Fall. This was the last one of the season -- Kayuta Lake Campground This site was huge and the far end of it overlooked the lake below.

Adirondack Scenic Railroad

On October 4, 2008, as part of our fall vacation, Jean and I took a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad (http://www.adirondackrr.com)

I managed to take about 75 pictures and 7 videos which I'll put together for a friend who is a train affectionado).

Ouch!

Micah and his sister came over after school with their dad, and dad said, "Hey, Opa, take a look at Micah's tooth -- it's pretty loose, don't you think?"
Sure was, and at that moment I knew what he had in mind (knowing my son).
"Noooo", I whispered under my breath, but it was too late -- he already had Micah back, grabbed that tooth and gave it a pull and a yank, and out it came. Blood was squirting everywhere, tears were shed, but hallelujah, another tooth makes way for growing up. Later Micah said that he'd get a dollar for this. "Inflation" Jean said to me.

VanDwelling and other ideas

I came across an article in Macleans magazine (check here) that I found very interesting. That led me to the cheaprvliving website. Then here. Well, you get the idea. Many of these people have made choices to intentionally live less expensively, quite radically so, with some becoming nomads of sorts. Living in vans, rv's, but doing so with all the essentials accounted for. Perhaps not the way we're used to it, but their creativity is inspiring.

I've come across some folks who have sold everything, bought themselves a motor home and who travel and live wherever they like, working along the way. That sounds intriguing to me and I think I could do that for awhile.

Our New 2007 Niagara Trailer, Camper, pop-up

Part of the fun of having a new camper (for me), is making modifications and personalizing it. I've started several albums of the modications, trouble and joys, etc., on Webshots.com because that seems to be the place where many owners post and share their experiences and adventures.

Jean's Flower

What's cool about Jean's flower garden is the variety she has going there. From spring till fall there are different phases, colours, and plants/flowers that come into their glory.

Here you see a cactus blooming. That's fairly rare around these parts, I think.

Now here's an interesting piece of pottery -- a crab.

Special Hat - Play Piano Better

Micah and Elizabeth were over today -- they do that on Fridays, and at one point we found Micah playing the piano as shown here. The hat he's wearing though, is actually a small ball that Aaron (his dad) "tore apart with his bare hands". Micah is wearing the largest remaining piece. Why? I have no idea, and he wears it only when playing piano.

I know that I've ignored this photo blog for far too long. So many things have happened, that I really haven't found the time to keep us updated.

One Day at VBS

We were fortunate to have Micah & Elizabeth over for the day. They went with us to VBS on the last day of the program, and this is the result -- fun and smiles

"Dream Home Series" Grimsby, Ontario

I took this picture for obvious reasons -- the house has it all, and to me it was stunning, and surely ranks near the top of my Dream Home Series (taken with my trusty little SD-110 - 3.2mp)

MAPLEHURST, 354 MAIN STREET WEST
With a mix of Italianate, Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival styles, this beautiful Victorian home has everything – 2 storey bay, gables, porches, verandah and even a tower! It was built C.1880 by Linus Woolverton a fruit farmer since 1798. In addition to growing fruit, Linus was editor of The Canadian Horticulturist, secretary of the Ontario Fruit Growers Association, and Inspector of Experimental Stations. Maplehurst was one of these stations.

I've been very thankful that I inherited this fabulous snowblower from my father-in-law. And with a few neighbours who don't have one, I've been able to help out.

Jean and I went to Pittsfield, MA, last week. On the way we went through part of Albany, NY, and there I noticed this house. What caught my eye was the brick work.

In our family it's not possible to wait until the appointed present opening time. So we've adopted the "Early Day Present" practice.
