New Camera

I've added a new camera to my collection.  The goal was to find a camera that could do it all, yet fit easily in my pocket, and cost less than my last camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS20K

There are complaints about "noise" in the photos, but I can deal with it.  It's a fabulous camera in all other respects.

So I suppose you'll be expecting to see some photos here! OK, they're coming.

In the meantime, you might review an updated History of my cameras to date (Feb 2013)

"Dream Home Series"

Late afternoon, after grabbing a couple of geocaches, this scene caught my eye. The home certainly qualifies for the "Dream Home Series" though it is quite different from the others.

"What A Mess!"

 "End of the Line."
This morning, Jean and I found this little creek at the bottom of a very deep gulley behind our house.  When I first saw this old, wrecked and abandoned shopping cart, I said, "Huh, end of the Line." What went through my mind at the time was sadness at the mess people make and leave behind. Then I had thoughts about how this scene was a symbol of one outcome of consumerism; covet, get, consume, use/wreck/yesterday/dissatisfied/no longer in style, dump it/throw it out, what's next?

A few hours later, when I reviewed the photos of the cart, I saw in this scene, a symbol of the outcome of so many lives today. Racing about, desperate for joy, love, acknowledgment ... going about from one place, experience, job, person, marriage, to the next -- shopping for life, hungry for something deep and lovely, but never quite getting it, or getting something that's close but nothing seems to satisfy.Yet the yearning for it, and the hope of getting it, drives one even more, convinced that this time I'll find it, this time I'll finally grab it, like the ass following a carrot, or as one person of old wrote, it's "a chasing after the wind" (Eccl. 2:11). End of the line, indeed.  Let that not be your life. There is a much, much better way.

"I want that Kitty!"

This is the kitty we'd like to have!
Our cat, Jehu, is no more. We still miss him.
We've had cats since 1977, and we'll have more, I'm sure.

This is the beginning of a "Dream Home Interior" Series.  Figured that we might as well look at some fabulous Dream Home Rooms!

My Mom

A person in Christ, In anticipation of the Resurrection
(Psalm 73:28)

Frouwkje Visser,
November 30, 1925 - January 1, 2012

On the Lord's Day, the first day of a new year, the Lord Jesus took mom into his care. Amazingly, unplanned by us, but through the Lord's precise planning and care, my dad, brother and family, Jean and I were drawn to be together with mom in her room at the Meadows. An hour after we all arrived, it became clear that the end was near. We stood around her in prayer, and by the time we said 'amen', she was gone. The end was a generous act of mercy for she had suffered much in the last while.

It's been a long time!

It used to be every other Friday night -- family over, make our own pizzas -- each time they were declared the best ever! Tonight, just the two of us, Jean and I made what we think are the "best ever". Jason will appreciate the cheese stuffed edging.

Icing on Top

Onions have long been harvested; it's time to rest. With a touch of frost, there's icing on top. Psalm 147:16

It may seem like a carefully posed scene, but no, it just involved me getting on my knees and seeing the art.

For just a moment...

For just a moment the sun broke through the clouds and with the hills and trees displayed some Divine Glory. (4 p.m.) Click on the photo for larger image.
This was taken with my phone two days later in the early evening - the glory had changed

Old Railway Bike Trail, Algonquin Park

The Old Railway Bike Trail is a leisurely family bicycle trail. For most of its 10-kilometre distance the trail follows the abandoned bed of the historic Ottawa, Arnprior, and Parry Sound Railway, opened in 1896 and decommissioned in 1959.

Some Maintenance Required

Posted by Picasa
Jean has cut the hair of her boys from the beginning. Eventually, it was clear that something wasn't well with the WAHL buzzer.  I engaged in standard repair techniques, opened it up, found the broken wire, fixed it, but wow, look at all the hair clippings jammed inside!!
