Further on Car Pooling

I found this photo somewhere, but I've not been able to figure out where (that is in which desert) it was taken. From other similar scenes I'm pretty sure it was in Mali, but that's just a guess
.

Car Pooling

So, you see, in West Africa, they have the right idea about car pooling.

I took this photo during a visit in January/February 2002. And for those who know the place, this was the next photo I took after Mac's Refuge (dining room shown below).

Dream Home Series

I think I could live in this house. True, it's not a Victorian style, but there's something so interesting about this place. Now if there's high-speed internet ...

______
Thanks to Derek for asking about some details about this place. I did some digging and found some info about the "house" on this blog where it says,

"This bizarre house overhanging the Seine river in Vernon, 5 km from Giverny, surprises and puzzles many visitors.

It seems so strange that somebody had the idea of building it this way!

No wonder when you know that it once was a mill. The wheel doesn’t exist anymore. In the Middle Ages mills were currently built on bridges.

Monet was inspired by this old house. He painted it from his studio boat. The painting is now in the museum of Fine Arts in New Orleans." (By Ariane, Guide Interpreter, Giverny France)

There Be Pirates!

Micah & Elizabeth had a sleep over last night at our place, and that meant we had a chance to see their inventiveness. Suddenly, they appeared threatening me with extinction. I took the picture and there you have it, matey.

Elizabeth wore a fancy head-dress thing, shown here in side-view. Micah wore half that ball his Dad tore into two some time back. But of particular note, is Micah's weapon of his own construction--it's some sort of two stage, adjustable, unstoppable weapon of choice. Of course, only love comes out of the barrel!

Crazy Days

A long, long time ago, in a land far, far away, I owned a 1972 Austin Mini Minor. If you look closely, you'll see me in the driver's seat.

Side of the Road Wonders

Where you might least expect it--wonders on the side of the road!

Taken with a Canon S-30 (still one of most surprisingly good small digital cameras I've owned).

Removing a Background etc, revisited

We're agreed that the previous rendition was a little overdone, giving Elizabeth that "hollywood" look. This might be a little better. And, as I mentioned in the comments, Elizabeth doesn't need any fixing--she's beautiful just as she is; it's the photo that needs help and that's only a reflection on the photographer.

Dream Home Series

Here's a little house tucked away somewhere in Scotland. Perhaps I could use it as our "summer cottage". Please do click on this photo!

Olympus OM2n

A long time ago, in 1978, I had a fine SLR, an Argus. Soon I had an Olympus OM-2n, which I still have and which still works perfectly. The link shows a slightly different model; mine is an OM2n

Going in Style

The other day I heard someone ask why some outhouses of old had two, ah, holes. The first answer I heard was "a male and female side". A practical answer was that in the winter time when one side "filled up" you would start on the other side. My dad's answer was the best, I thought. He said, "companionship". In a previous time people were not as crazy rushed as we are today, and a visit to the outhouse could and should take a good, leisurely while. You might read a magazine, a few chapters of the Bible, or just sit and think. How much nicer then if you could share that experience. The above photo exemplifies such sharing in the best possible light.

Elizabeth's Ballet Performance

On Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, we had the pleasure of watching Elizabeth performing with her Ballet school class mates -- their first public performance.

Dave Wickerham

Last night, Dave Wickerham came to Kingston and played on Canada's Largest Theatre Pipe Organ (http://www.ktos.ca/index.html). It was an excellent concert. The video here is Dave Wickerham playing "Rondo in G" on the 4/20 Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ at Denver's Paramount Theatre. It gives you an idea of what he can do.

What a Load of Loot!

Once round Oma and Opa's neighbourhood landed an amazing haul of product. By the end of our tour they complained that the bags were getting heavy -- no wonder!

Micah's Sixth Birthday

Franceen has some nice shots of Micah's birthday party. So I thought you might enjoy this moment from September 25th. Whatever they're doing here, it looks like Micah and Elizabeth are about to blow each other up.

Thanksgiving Hike

Meghan took this shot, while Micah was ahead with Cassidy the family dog.
Today we went for a nice fall hike. Later today we'll enjoy God's good gift of family and food with grateful hearts

A Man's Best Friend

If you really want to go on a hike, try going with Aaron and Cassidy.
I think those two were made for each other. They go on 10k runs and think
nothing of it.

One Needs a Walking Stick

Elizabeth prefers to hike with a walking stick, but finding the right one can be a chore. Here she's demonstrating how this one has a sharp point that make it less than optimal.

It was a fabulous Thanksgiving Day, with much to be thankful for with a grateful heart. We went for a walk somewhere in the Parrot Bay area, and Micah said he wanted to take a picture. Here's the result. Well done, Micah, excellent work!

A Good Site

Jean and I camped at several spots this Fall. This was the last one of the season -- Kayuta Lake Campground This site was huge and the far end of it overlooked the lake below.
